当今时代面临百年未有之大变局，亟需新的理念、方法去审视变革，应对人类世的新挑战，以期增进民生福祉，增强组织韧性，并推动地球积极变化。设计，作为一种创新性的预期行动，逐步从以物为中心，以用户为中心，以社会为中心，以自然为中心向以未来为中心发展演变。“设计未来”（Design Futures）学科方向以设计学、未来学、预测学为基础，将事物的未来可能性——包含人类主体与外在客体的动态发展——作为设计的新内容与标准。它既是包含本体论、认识论和方法论的知识体系，又具备独特的实践模式与创新生态。
The current era is undergoing unprecedented changes unseen in a century, urgently demanding new concepts and methodologies to examine transformations and address emerging challenges of the Anthropocene. This imperative aims to enhance people's well-being, strengthen organizational resilience, and drive positive planetary transformations. Design, as an innovative anticipatory practice, is progressively evolving from object-centered, user-centered, society-centered, and nature-centered approaches toward a future-centered paradigm.
The emerging disciplinary field of Design Futures integrates design studies, futures studies, and forecasting studies, positioning future possibilities – encompassing the dynamic development of human subjects and external objects – as both new content and criteria for design practice. It constitutes not only a knowledge system incorporating ontological, epistemological, and methodological frameworks, but also manifests unique practice models and innovation ecosystems.

设计未来（Design Futures）课题组由清华大学美术学院信息艺术设计系付志勇副教授主持，依托清华大学艺术与科技创新基地和清华大学中意设计创新基地，立足设计未来研究，聚焦前沿创新理论、工具与实践方法，不断推进未来素养（Futures Literacy）与未来福祉，以期与各领域涉众共同创造弹性、繁荣、包容与可持续的未来。我们力图将未来思维（Futures Thinking）融入设计创新，为设计赋予未来变量，通过未来审视当下设计与技术发展路径，具备愿景预见的洞察力；我们力图将未来素养融入社会创新，在产品与服务创新实践中融入对世界观、价值观的社会人文视角宏观思考，成为塑造未来的行动派。
The Design Futures Research Group, led by Associate Professor Zhiyong Fu from the Department of Information Art & Design at Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts & Design, operates through Tsinghua's Art & Technology Innovation Platform and the Tsinghua-Milan Design Innovation Hub. Rooted in Design Futures research, the group focuses on cutting-edge theoretical frameworks, tools, and practical methodologies to advance Futures Literacy and future well-being, collaborating with cross-disciplinary stakeholders to co-create resilient, prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable futures.
We endeavor to integrate Futures Thinking into design innovation, introducing future variables to design practice while critically examining current trajectories of design and technological development through a futuring lens, cultivating visionary foresight. Simultaneously, we work to embed Futures Literacy into social innovation, infusing macro-level socio-humanistic perspectives on worldviews and values into product and service innovation practices, ultimately becoming proactive agents in shaping tomorrow.

The team collaborates with the UNESCO Futures Literacy Labs Network to empower change-makers across social, industrial, and educational sectors. We provide knowledge systems, methodological tools, and educational ecosystems centered on Futures Literacy, cultivating talents equipped with future-shaping capabilities and strategic foresight.

Addressing challenges posed by sustainable development, the team leverages open innovation models and information technologies to propose novel pathways for urban renewal, rural revitalization, and community building. Through proactive design and transdisciplinary innovation, we tackle wicked problems in complex socio-technical systems.
Operating within digitized, networked, and intelligent socio-technical contexts, the team investigates paradigm shifts from "quality living" to "future well-being." By integrating metaverse frameworks, we explore future-oriented product-service systems and economic models, generating new value for enterprises and the public.
Focusing on shared challenges in building a community with a shared future for humanity, the team advances Design Futures theory and practice through conferences, workshops, creative productions, exhibitions, competitions, and incubation programs. By mobilizing youth empowerment and global think-tank networks, we contribute Chinese insights to international actions.

Future-Centered Foresight Policy
At the societal level, addressing the construction of a community with a shared future, we promote futures thinking and foresight methodologies. Aligned with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) challenges, we develop future-oriented trend analysis reports and foresight research for governmental agencies, aiming to shape policies that advance collective well-being.
Future-Centered Value Transformation
At the corporate level, responding to digital transformation imperatives, we deploy Design Futures innovation toolkits. Grounded in the Creating Shared Value (CSV) framework, we provide strategic consultancy for enterprises to develop new products, services, and scenarios that drive sustainable value conversion.
Future-Centered Innovation Competencies
At the public engagement level, supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we foster Futures Literacy among youth communities. Through Anticipation knowledge systems and participatory pedagogies, we deliver innovation education and capability-building programs to activate collective intelligence and empower future-ready generations.

“设计未来”正在成为新的学科增长点，全球多所领先的大学正在开展学术研究及专业教育，培养应对未来发展的复合型创新人才。我们基于“设计未来”的前沿探索，从跨学科的视角构建出设计未来的知识生态与培养体系，并与联合国机构、海外大学和专家合作开发课程、教材和设计工具，支持本专业方向的构建与实施。

在艺术与科学融合的“临界点”上，我们立足艺科竞赛与未来展览，通过国际化的创新赛事、数字化的展览方式，思辨性的创新作品，面向科普教育和艺科创新领域、基于元宇宙的数字模式，打造未来科学中心、未来艺术展馆、未来艺科基地孵化平台。
"Design Futures" is emerging as a pivotal academic frontier, with leading global universities advancing scholarly research and professional education to cultivate interdisciplinary innovators capable of navigating future complexities. Building upon cutting-edge explorations in Design Futures, we have established a knowledge ecosystem and educational framework from a cross-disciplinary perspective. In collaboration with UN agencies, overseas universities, and domain experts, we co-develop curricula, teaching materials, and design toolkits to systematically support the construction and implementation of this emerging discipline.
Responding to global climate challenges and the digital revolution, we integrate futures thinking and design innovation to employ design foresight and scenario planning methodologies. Through hybrid approaches combining remote research and localized fieldwork, we construct digitally-converged urban scenarios. Across four dimensions – economic vitality, environmental quality, cultural continuity, and social equity – we deliver future visioning frameworks for urban renewal and community development, driving human-centered digital transformation in cities.
Within the context of Web 3.0 and digital living, we focus on paradigm shifts from "quality living" to "future well-being." Grounded in product-service innovation derivatives, we employ theoretical frameworks and action-research approaches to construct behavioral data assets, iterate design prototypes, and deliver foresight-driven solutions. Through the lens of future well-being, we engage with inclusive design research to establish future-oriented aesthetic paradigms and explore empathetic symbiosis in future product ecosystems, continuously generating value for enterprises, governments, and the public.
At the tipping point of art-science convergence, we anchor our work in global innovation competitions and future-oriented exhibitions. Through metaverse-based frameworks, speculative innovation artifacts, and digital exhibition formats, we create platforms for sci-tech education and art-science innovation. Our initiatives aim to establish collaborative ecosystems including Future Science Hubs, Next-Gen Art Galleries, and Art-Science Incubation Bases, fostering cross-pollination between speculative creativity and emerging technologies.
